Against the backdrop of countries' aspirations to restore economic and social activity, as well as to weaken restrictive measures, the world has entered a new dangerous phase of the spread of coronavirus, said the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adan Gebreisus, writes Interfax.

“The world is now in a new dangerous phase. Many people are understandably tired of staying at home. Countries, it is also clear why, are striving to restore economic and social activities,” the head of WHO said at a press conference.

“But the virus is still spreading quickly. As before, it causes death and most people are vulnerable,” he added.

According to him, WHO on Thursday, June 18, received data on more than 150 thousand new cases of coronavirus, which became a record daily indicator since the beginning of the pandemic. Gebreisus noted that about half of these cases occur in North and South America, and the pandemic continues to spread actively in southern Asia and the Middle East.

“We call on all countries and all people to exercise extreme vigilance. Continue to social distance, stay home if you feel sick, wear masks when necessary and wash your hands,” he said.

According to the Worldometers portal, since the beginning of the outbreak of the new coronavirus, 8 cases of COVID-600 infection have been recorded in the world, more than 000 thousand people have died, and over 19 have recovered.
