Volunteers from the US and Canada will celebrate Rosh Hashanah for Ukrainian refugees in Poland
The celebration of Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) for hundreds of Ukrainian refugees of Jewish origin in Poland will be held with the help of volunteers from the US and Canada. The project is coordinated by the Global Volunteer Center Jewish Federations of North America in collaboration with the Joint (American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee) and the Jewish Agency for Israel (Joint).
Volunteers from the former USSR who are teachers or religious workers in their communities will be sent to Warsaw, Krakow and Lodz. In 2022, Rosh Hashanah falls on September 25-27.
In Warsaw, in cooperation with the Office of the Chief Rabbi of Poland, a celebratory meal will be organized for refugees on the eve of Rosh Hashanah. In addition, there will be a performance by Yuri Vedenyapin, professor at McGill University, Yiddish teacher and musician, including traditional liturgy and festive music.
In Krakow, in collaboration with a local Jewish cultural center, Russian-speaking reformist rabbi Ilana Berd and artist Marina Paz will combine a Rosh Hashanah meal with an educational program.
