Owners of Volkswagen diesel can choose from two options: return the car to the manufacturer or return it for repair to fix technical problems. The program will cover almost half a million 2-liter Jetta, Beetle, Audi A3, Golf, and Passat 2009-2015 release years.
In addition, Volkswagen will pay each of those who purchased such cars in the US from $ 5,1 to $ 10 thousand. The settlement amount also includes $ 2,7 billion of compensation for environmental damage and $ 2 billion for developing technologies with zero emissions.
In January, Volkswagen already submitted a car recall plan to regulators for consideration, but US government officials were not satisfied with it. They stated that the concern's proposals are "incomplete, largely imperfect and do not comply with legal requirements."
Volkswagen was in the center scandal after the discovery on the machines of software that allows you to circumvent the stringent environmental regulations of the United States.
Investigations into the auto giant have been launched in several countries in Europe and Asia. It turned out that more than 11 of millions of diesel cars of this brand were equipped with special software that was deceiving measuring equipment during tests for compliance with environmental standards.
