Martial law in Ukraine: Poroshenko made an unexpected statement. VIDEO

On it, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the military situation has ceased to operate.

“Now at 14:00 martial law ends. This is my fundamental decision. It is based on all components of the current security situation in the state,” he said.

The President stressed that he had made the appropriate decision, despite the fact that the situation in Ukraine had not changed much.

“The OSCE confirmed our intelligence data - Grads were found in the Lugansk area, the amount of artillery was increased, the tanks that were recorded by satellite images were not withdrawn,” he noted.

According to Poroshenko, if not for the elections, he would have asked the Verkhovna Rada to extend martial law, since the aggression on the part of Russia does not stop.

“I would like to emphasize that the Russian threat has not gone away. And perhaps I will be sincere with you: if it were not for the elections, we would have asked the Verkhovna Rada to extend this martial law,” he said and named the exact date of the presidential elections in Ukraine – March 31, 2019.

At the same time, the President stressed that during the month of martial law, the country has done a lot to strengthen defense, including in the international arena. He also voiced two major failures.

In addition, the president expressed support for the continued action of the restrictive measures of the State Border Service, which were introduced during martial law. One of them was the restriction of entry into Ukraine for men - citizens of Russia.

Later, People's Deputy from the Popular Front Andrei Teteruk said that martial law in Ukraine would be resumed in the event of an escalation of Russian aggression on the borders.

Recall that 25 November ship of Russia rammed tug of the Ukrainian Navy at the exit of the Kerch Strait. Russia used weapons against Ukrainian warships, capturing three vessels. On board were three wounded, 24 Ukrainians became prisoners of war.

After the attack of Russia in the 10 regions of Ukraine introduced martial law is 26 December 2018 of the year. Under the action came: Vinnitsa, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhya, Lugansk, Nikolaev, Odessa, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson and Chernihiv regions.
