A teenage driver drove into the oncoming lane and crashed into a car: 6 people were killed, including 2 children

Six people were killed in Texas when a teenage driver of a pickup truck crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a minivan carrying seven people, the Texas Department of Public Safety said. Writes about this Yahoo!.

Three people, including the 17-year-old driver of a pickup truck, were hospitalized with critical injuries after a Dec. 26 crash in Johnson County.

Two of the dead were children aged 10 and 9 years.

The crash happened on Highway 67 around 16 p.m. when a 00 Chevrolet Silverado with a 2014-year-old driver and passenger was traveling south and crossed into oncoming traffic. The pickup truck then crashed into a 17 Honda Odyssey.

The Odyssey driver and five passengers were killed. The only surviving passenger, a 43-year-old man, suffered critical injuries.

The driver and passenger of the pickup also suffered critical injuries.

Video footage from the scene of the accident shows both vehicles were heavily damaged, with the front end of each destroyed.

The victims were identified as Rushil Barry, 28, of Irvine, Texas, who was the driver of the Odyssey; 36-year-old Navina Potabathulu; 64-year-old Nageswararo Ponnada and 60-year-old Sithamahalakshmi Ponnadu, as well as children - 10-year-old Krithika Potabathula and 9-year-old Nishidha Potabathula.

They are members of the same family.

All but Barry were from Alpharetta, Georgia.

Ayyappala Bandaru, Barry's neighbor, said Barry was traveling with his cousin, his wife, two small children and his mother-in-law at the time of the accident.

The family was returning from visiting the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, he said.
