David Dissegarde Kallik, deputy director of the Non-Party Fiscal Policy Institute, was more uncompromising, calling the numbers "frankly absurd."

CIS Research Director Stephen Camarota says that while experts may disagree with his numbers, one thing is clear - a border wall with Mexico will ultimately pay for itself by reducing the burden on taxpayers.

“A range of reasonable assumptions indicated that the wall would not have to approach 100 percent efficiency to pay for itself,” he wrote. “This would be true even if the wall cost twice as much.”
