More than 20 pedophiles arrested in Florida in a week

As part of a six-day Intercept V operation aimed at protecting children, in the Sarasota district (Florida), an 21 man who had an intention to have sex with a child was arrested.

According to a county sheriff's officer, all those arrested were men who arrived in the region with the goal of having sex with a boy or girl, writes Miami Herald.

One of those arrested was from Hale Gardens, 4 were from Bradenton, 10 were from Sarasota, and the rest were from Inglewood, St. Petersburg, Tampa, Davenport, North Port and Venice. Those arrested range in age from 22 to 58 and face more than 60 criminal charges in total.

24-year-old Albert Vira from Davenport worked as a mechanic at Walt Disney World. In a conversation with an undercover officer, whom he considered an 14-year-old girl, the man promised that he would stay with her and support her if she got pregnant from him.

According to the sheriff, the criminals used various sites on the Internet to search for victims, they were sure that they were in contact with children from 12 to 14 years, although they actually talked to detectives.

Going to a meeting with children, 4 men brought condoms with them, some of them offered to bring drugs, many men sent candid photos to their victims.

According to the sheriff, some of the detainees traveled in search of victims throughout Florida.

Since 2013, more than 100 pedophiles have been detained in Sarasota County.

Law enforcement officers called nine social applications often used by children that can be used by criminals in an attempt to persuade teens to have sex:

• Bumble; dating app;
• Snapchat, photo, video and chat application;
• Kik, a messaging app;
• Liveme, a video streaming application where users can earn coins to “pay” for photos;
• Holla; video chat application;
• Whisperanonymous social network;
• Ask.FM, anonymous chat;
• Calculator%, a secret application used to hide photos, videos, files, or browser history;
• Hot or Not, chat and dating app.
