In Florida, the most dangerous bird in the world has killed a farmer

In Florida, cassowary, considered the most dangerous flightless bird in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records, attacked a farmer and killed him, writes New York Post.

The incident occurred on a farm near Gainesville. The bird attacked the host and killed it, probably with long claws. The authorities do not disclose the name of the deceased, but they say that the man was breeding birds.

“It looks like it happened by accident. As far as I understand, the man was standing next to the bird and at some point fell. When he fell, the bird attacked him,” said Alachua County Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Taylor.

Cassowaries are the largest flightless birds. They live in New Guinea and Australia. On average, the height of the bird reaches 1,8 meters, but some individuals are capable of growing up to 2 meters. The weight of the bird is from 60 kilograms.

Their claws are extremely sharp and reach lengths in 10 centimeters. Their blow is fatal to humans.

“The cassowary can cut through any predator or potential threat with one swift strike. Its powerful legs allow it to accelerate up to 50 kilometers per hour in dense forest conditions,” according to the San Diego Zoo’s website.

In the United States, cassowary is not grown for food, but these birds are in high demand among the collectors.

Authorities ask cazouar owners to observe caution and safety requirements when breeding and keeping these birds.
