In Florida, due to poisonous algae closed beaches
In Florida, some of the beaches near lakes and rivers were closed due to the influx of poisonous bright green algae from Lake Okeechobee, which have already reached the Palm Beach Channel and are heading south towards Broward and Miami-Dade counties. The cause of algal blooms was the release of water into the lake, which contained the remains of agricultural fertilizers.
Experts called them “guacamole algae.” Many channels turned into corresponding green colors. Among the closed ones is the popular beach of Peanut Island Park near Palm Beach Bay, connecting the Lake Worth lagoon with the Atlantic Ocean, reports telegraph.co.uk.
According to the head of the environmentalDepartment of Palm Beach County, experts are doing everything to direct the “spot” of algae along a route that will allow it to reach neighboring counties in the weakest concentration possible. During the holiday weekend, it's best to avoid swimming in the canals and lakes in the Palm Beach area. As for swimming in the ocean, there have been no warnings from the authorities so far.
