Florida, because of the hurricane will close two nuclear power plants
Due to the threat of hurricane Irma, two nuclear power plants, which are among the most powerful in the United States, will be closed in the US state of Florida. This was announced by the energy supply company Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) on Twitter.
FPL operates in Florida two NPPs -Turkey Point and St. Lucie.
“They will be closed before the storm hits,” company spokesman Robert Gould said.
At the same time, he noted that the FPL nuclear facilities are among the most reinforced in terms of resistance to floods and storms in the United States.
The total capacity of the four nuclear power plants, run by Florida Power & Light, is 3.6 megawatts, enough to power nearly 2 million apartments.
Recall now irma is located above the Sargasso Sea. The atmospheric vortex to which the power category is assigned to the 4 is heading north-west at a speed of 26 km / h. According to weather forecasts, the epicenter of Irma will reach the southern areas of Florida on Sunday morning, and on Monday morning it will reach the coastal regions of Georgia.
