Authorities oblige New York hospitals to hire more staff: how can an immigrant get a nurse's license in the USA
For every two patients in hospital intensive care units in New York State, there are now must be at least one nurse. The state Department of Health's order affects 212 hospitals in the region. The requirement for higher nurse-to-patient ratios in intensive care units is part of the "Safe Staffing Act" approved by state lawmakers back in 2021. And now it comes into force. The Department of Health has the power to fine hospitals that violate these regulations.
A 2021 study found that in New York hospitals, one nurse works with an average of six patients. This means that now medical institutions will begin to hire nurses en masse in order to close personnel gaps that have now become illegal.
As of May 2023 in the state worked 350 thousand nurses, and the Department of Health estimates that by 2030 there will be a shortage of about 40 thousand. That is, a nurse's license is a passport to the world of guaranteed employment with a high salary in New York. Registered Nurses (RN) in State earn an average of $93 per year.
How to get a US Nurse license
Immigrants who have already arrived in the country with a medical education can obtain a nurse's license in the United States (Registered Nurse). To do this, you need to pass a rather voluminous and difficult NCLEX-RN exam (from April 1 updated and made it more practice-oriented).
You can prepare for the test on the course Review Course for the NCLEX-RN Examination from Private Career School Concord rusam.
Over 160 hours of classes (online or in the classroom), Concord Rusam's experienced teachers will help you adapt your nursing knowledge to American medical standards. The five-month training is based on live interesting lectures, as well as on handouts, in which the lecture data are presented in convenient diagrams and visual tables.
Students have constant access to a computer lab with a bank of over 30 NCLEX-RN test questions. There they can test their knowledge, as well as practice taking the nurse's license test.
Preparing for the NCLEX-RN test at school Concord rusam takes place in English so that graduates know all the terms in the form in which they are used in American hospitals. At the same time, all difficult moments, if necessary, are explained in Russian. This is not difficult for teachers, since they are all bilingual and have once taken the NCLEX-RN test themselves, and also worked (or work) in hospitals.
Concord Rusam guides its graduates through all stages of obtaining a nursing license in the USA: training, diploma evaluation, applying for admission to the NCLEX-RN exam, as well as preparing a resume and finding a job.
Traveling nurses
The Concord Rusam school operates in New York, but its NCLEX-RN test preparation course can be taken online from anywhere in the US and even the world. If you're worried that the state you live in has lower demand for nurses or lower salaries than New York City, don't worry. The demand for RN is now very high in all regions of the United States.
Moreover, in America are now very much in demand traveling nurses (Travel Nurses). Many New York hospitals make up for the shortage of personnel through contracts with companies that bring them specialists from other regions. This kind of work allows you to see the country, it pays well - $2 per week.
If you also have an adventure streak, then with an RN license can work on a cruise ship. It is simply unnecessary to describe the advantages of such work. In essence, this is a job on vacation: you have a constant view of the ocean around you, different cities flash overboard, you live and eat on the ship, and you also earn $5200-6100 per month.
Professions for those with no previous medical education
If you do not have a previous medical education, then in Concord rusam you can get several medical professions from scratch. The school offers short courses in popular specialties:
- Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA): course duration - 5 months;
- Phlebotomy technician (blood sampling specialist): 5 weeks;
- Medical Billing and Coding (Medical Billing Specialist): 4 months;
- Sterile Processing Technician (specialist in sterilization of medical instruments): 2 months;
