Owners want to raise prices in restaurants in New York because of the increase in staff salaries

Eating out to restaurants in New York isn't cheap, but it could soon become even more expensive.

Some restaurant owners ask lawmakers of the city to allow them to add an additional amount to the bill due to the fact that they have to pay higher salaries to employees, writes NBC.

More New York-based 100 restaurateurs have said that the recent increase in the minimum wage in the state has meant that the income from the restaurant’s operation does not pay back the costs.

“We need help, and Mayor de Blasio is the only person who can provide it, along with the City Council. I just want to make enough to cover the pay increase,” said John Bluestein, owner Heartland Brewery.

The New York service industry alliance supports this proposal and says that the salary allowance will be small and not necessary for introduction in restaurants.

However, some restaurant owners in New York are against the introduction of such a surcharge, they are sure that customers will be more willing to accept a slight increase in prices on the menu than a surcharge on the bill to cover salary increases.

At the same time in the Alliance of the service sector of the city said that, according to research, many customers are willing to refuse to visit restaurants if food prices rise.

A spokesman for the mayor of De Blazio noted that the administration understands the importance of the restaurant industry for the city and that it is considering the offer of restaurateurs, but has not yet formed its position regarding the proposed measure.
