Guilty in California forest fires sentenced to 12 years
In California, Brandon McGlover's 33-year-old from Temecula was convicted of forest arson and sentenced to 12 years and 4 months in prison after he pleaded guilty, writes USA Today.
The testimony stated that McGlover used a barbecue lighter and a WD-40 can to set out nine fires that spread to more than 5 000 hectares of forest near Idyllwild, Anza and Sage.
McGlover pleaded guilty to two charges of arson. Initially, McGlover was charged that on July 25 committed nine separate arsons, including the Cranston Fire, which was the largest.
The judge also ordered McGlover to pay compensation to the victims.
During the meeting, one of the victims, Andrea Bond, said that she lived in constant anxiety, as the fire destroyed her house and property.
Alta Cavano, another victim, said that in the fire she lost her car, which she bought for the teacher's salary. Insurers refused to pay her damages.
Janine Munson said she lived with her husband Tim Hammons in a forest near Idyllwild for more than 20 years. When they were ordered to evacuate, they collected everything they could and went to Hemet. During the trip, Hammons suffered a heart attack and three days later he died.
McGlover arrested 25 on July 2018 of the year, with the right of release on bail in the amount of $ 3,5 million.
As a result of the proceedings, the investigators confirmed the version that all the arsons were carried out using a lighter.
“Every fire started on the side of the road, in the immediate vicinity of the road. Bonfires were laid out on both sides of the road and lit with a portable device with an open flame. They were lit in a linear pattern, ”said investigator Greg Ewing.
During a search of McGlover's car, he found three lighters, as well as two cans of WD-40 and a receipt stating that one bank of WD-40 was bought at Walmart in San Jacinto.
According to Ewing, damage from cranston fire is estimated at $ 23 million. The fire seized more than 5 000 hectares of territory and evacuated more than 7 000 people, destroying 7 houses.
