Video of the day: how Prigozhin recruits Russian prisoners for the war in Ukraine

Supporters of Alexei Navalny, who make the Popular Politics channel, published video showing Yevgeny Prigozhin, a businessman close to Vladimir Putin, recruiting prisoners for the Wagner PMC (private military company) to take part in the war in Ukraine. Edition Meduza transcribed his speech.

Let us recall that the Wagner Group is an unofficial armed formation, often referred to in the media as a Russian private military company (“PMC Wagner”, “PMC Wagner”). It is alleged that since 2014, the group operated in Ukraine and then in Syria.

So, this is what Prigozhin said to the convicts: “I am a representative of a private military company. Probably heard - PMC Wagner is called. The war is hard. It doesn’t look like any Chechen ones and so on. My ammunition consumption is about two and a half times more than in Stalingrad.

Next, he introduced them to the rules of service in his military group: “The first sin is desertion. Nobody gives back. Nobody is backing down. No one surrenders. When you are training, you will be told about two grenades that you should have with you. The second sin is alcohol and drugs. In a combat zone - while you are with us for six months, you are always in a combat zone. And the third sin is looting. Including sexual contact with local women. Flora, fauna, men there, with anyone.”

Prigozhin clarified that the minimum age at which prisoners are taken to war is 22 years old. If the prisoner is younger, he must receive a document (or “paper”, as Prigogine said in his speech) from the next of kin, that they do not mind.

The maximum age, according to Prigogine, is 50 years old, but there may be exceptions for physically strong older men.

“But if he’s strong, right here at the interview we do basic tests to see how strong he is. Physical fitness is essential. We look at how strong you are, and then we make a decision and take it,” says Prigozhin.

“We are attentive to those who are imprisoned under 228 (Article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation: illegal acquisition, storage, transportation, production, processing of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues. - Ed.). Exclusively based on whether there was an addiction or not. If you have questions, we reserve the right, while we are preparing to pick you up, to conduct a polygraph and ask questions about how stable the person is,” says the recruiter.

Prigozhin said that his organization is very careful about those who are imprisoned under sex articles, but "understands that there are mistakes."

“We only need stormtroopers. 60% of my guys are stormtroopers and you will be one of them. You will be no different from us. “You have the same attitude, sometimes even more loyal, than those who have been fighting with me for many years and have gone through dozens of wars,” Prigozhin said. — Fire support platoons and other units that provide the offensive. In my PMC I have several types of aircraft, I have MLRS, I have tanks, I have everything that is necessary to attack effectively. Those who move forward, those who are the most greyhounds - they survive better. Those who give up and don’t understand what to do, it’s clear that they get into trouble.”

Prigozhin assured that the bodies of the dead were taken to the place that the PMC employee indicated in his will. He also promised that everyone is buried in the Alley of Heroes in those cities where it is.

The businessman assured the prisoners that in six months they would be able to go home and receive a pardon.

“Those who want to stay with us stay with us. Therefore, there are no options to return to the zone. Those who arrive on the first day: “I’m in the wrong place,” we mark them as “deserters,” and after that they are shot,” he said.

Prigozhin gave people 5 minutes to make a decision.

He said: “The issues of guarantees and trust are as follows. Do you have anyone who can pull you out of the zone from here with ten years? What do you think? There are two who pull out. This is Allah and God - in a wooden box. And I'm taking you alive. But I don’t always return alive.”
