'Return every dollar': USCIS officially warned immigrants not to receive social assistance

US federal authorities in their official statement warned immigrants against using various social assistance programs. Sponsors will have to pay back "every dollar" spent on an immigrant, the new immigration chief said.

USCIS employees involved in legal immigration matters will now warn immigrants that they are obliged to support themselves, and not become a burden for society and the state, receiving social benefits, writes Washington Times.

This innovation is reported in connection with the new rules adopted by 14 June by the Acting Director of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Ken Cucinelli.

The warning will be issued to both the immigrant and his sponsor, who, at the request of the law, signed an agreement to prevent the immigrant from becoming a burden to society.

In a warning, new UCSIS employees will “remind” sponsors that they can ask (and now will be asked) to return “every dollar” to the benefits that the immigrant will receive.

“The sponsor must be willing and able to provide financial support to the prospective immigrant as specified in laws and regulations. If a sponsored immigrant receives any means-tested government benefits, the sponsor is expected to match every dollar of benefits received by the immigrant,” according to an official statement released by on USCIS website.

“The President has made it a priority to ensure that every person who seeks to come to the United States is self-sufficient, temporarily or permanently,” Cuccinelli said in a statement to agency staff.

The statement also says that an immigrant must “rely on their own capabilities and resources of their families, their sponsors and private organizations, and not on public resources.”

One of the proposed laws would allow employers to lay off employees who do not speak English in their workplace without the right to unemployment benefits.
