'Your leadership is leading the country to the abyss': the journalist returned to Putin all the awards that he presented to her

Former Channel One employee Zhanna Agalakova, who quit immediately after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, announced the rejection of Russian state awards received from Vladimir Putin, reports Meduza.

We are talking about the medal of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree, which Agalakova received in 2006, and the Order of Friendship, which she was awarded in 2018.

According to Agalakova's message on social networks, she sent the awards to the Kremlin by mail, attaching a postcard with the following text:

Mr. President,
Your leadership is leading the country to the abyss.
I consider your awards unacceptable.

The celebrity has worked on Channel One for about 20 years, and has recently been a correspondent in France.

Over the years, she hosted the daily and evening editions of Novosti, as well as the programs Vremya and Nochnoe Vremya. In addition, she reported abroad and prepared stories from France and the United States, reports StarHit.

She opposed the actions of the authorities immediately after the start of the war in Ukraine. In March 2022, the TV presenter quit her job and went to live, presumably in France.

In an interview with foreign media, the TV presenter admitted that she did not regret anything: “I am satisfied with the choice I made. Maybe I should have done it earlier, much earlier.”

Agalakova also noted that she sometimes watches Russian TV channels. In connection with the information that is broadcast on TV, Jeanne turned to her compatriots. “Just don't listen, find other sources of information. Look on the Internet and open your heart,” said the former TV star in an interview with the BBC.

“I don’t even know if I will ever (hopefully) have the opportunity to come back. I really want to. This is my country. And everything I have there is all lost. I am aware of this, - Zhanna noted on the Elena Pogrebizhskaya Films channel. - We have been poor so many times ... And I do not see anything good ahead. And then it will be 57, 58, 60 and so on. Starting something from scratch is extremely difficult ... I don’t know how to do something else. That is, of course, if it will, I can wash the floors. I'm not afraid of work."
