At the zoo, bears killed the caretaker in front of tourists
The Shanghai Wildlife Park, China, has pledged to tighten security after one of its employees was gnawed by bears in front of visitors. The details of the terrible incident were shared by the publication with the BBC.
The incident took place at the safari park on Saturday, October 17, and was filmed by one of the passengers on the tourist bus. The video, which went viral on the internet, shows a bus passing through a wildlife zone and passengers start screaming at a cluster of bears outside the window.
“Someone is there!” one passenger exclaims, while another asks, “What’s going on?”
The zoo expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased employee, adding that the management is terribly upset because of the tragedy and will do everything to prevent this from happening again. The park also apologized to tourists who witnessed the macabre incident and refunded their tickets.

The park temporarily closed the wildlife area, in which bears moved without obstacles, and increased security measures. Visitors could only be in this area inside the buses.
Video of the incident quickly spread on Chinese social media Weibo and sparked controversy over the need for zoos.
Some users called for the closure of zoos altogether, noting that the bears just behaved like wild animals. Others blamed the zoo management and insufficient security measures to blame for the tragedy.
Animal attacks on zoo workers in China are rare, but in the recent past, there have been several attacks on visitors allegedly provoked by themselves. For example, in 2017, a bear bit a visitor to a Chinese safari park who ignored warning signs and opened a window to feed the bear.
