US immigration and customs control agents (ICE) conducted a 5-day immigration raid in New York, during which an 31 person was arrested, including a Ukrainian.

The operation took place on 19-23 in May in New York City, on Long Island and in the Hudson Valley, says department site.

Some of those arrested during this raid may face federal prosecution for illegally entering the country after deportation. Those arrested who are not subject to federal prosecution will be subject to administrative processing for expulsion from the United States. Those who are subject to outstanding expulsion orders or who have illegally returned to the United States after expulsion, are usually subject to immediate deportation from the country.

“ICE officers conduct targeted enforcement actions every day, and like this raid, we are arresting criminals who pose a threat to public safety in communities,” said Thomas R. Decker, Director of the ERO (Enforcement Removal Operations) Office in New York .

Those arrested include citizens of such countries: China, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Peru, Saint Kitts and Ukraine.

ICE secured expulsion of 258 085 foreigners from the US in the 2018 fiscal year. During the raids, 158 581 was arrested by a foreigner, 90% of whom were convicted in criminal cases, were under investigation in a criminal case, or had previously issued court orders to deport them. The total number of arrests increased by 2017% compared to the financial year 11.
