Ebola woman hospitalized in UK
A woman was hospitalized in the British city of Northampton (Northamptornshire) with a suspected Ebola virus disease (EVD). This was reported on Wednesday evening by the Press Association.
A hospital spokesman confirmed that they had admitted a woman with suspected EVD. “She will be in isolation,” he added.
At the same time, the medical institution did not publish other details of the incident, however, as the BBC broadcasting corporation notes, “it should be understood that the woman recently traveled abroad.”
At the end of last year, nurse Pauline Kafferka, who had returned from Sierra Leone, was diagnosed with a deadly disease. She became the first patient in the UK who was diagnosed with EVD. Now in her state of health there has been an improvement. Kafferki continues to be in quarantine, she is transfused with the blood plasma of patients who have successfully survived the disease. Their blood contains antibodies that help fight infection. The patient is also treated with an experimental antiviral drug.
According to the World Health Organization, the number of victims of the Ebola virus in the world has reached 8429 people, 21296 have become infected, writes ITAR-TASS.
