Ukraine is going to impose martial law

NSDC and President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko supported at an emergency meeting the introduction of martial law in the country for 60 days. All participants in the meeting, including the head of government, Vladimir Groisman, spoke in favor of this decision.

Poroshenko himself said that he would submit the provision on the introduction of martial law to the Verkhovna Rada, which would make the final decision. At the same time, the Ukrainian president assured that Ukraine would not launch an offensive in Donbass after this and would not carry out mobilization. “The necessary work will be carried out with the first-stage reserve,” he said.

Poroshenko also promised not to restrict the rights and freedoms of citizens, but asked journalists to "carefully cover the events."

The meeting of the NSDC was held after an emergency meeting of the military council of Ukraine, at which the situation in the Kerch Strait was discussed. Detention of three ships of the Ukrainian Navy there was regarded as an act of aggression.

In Moscow, the shelling and detention of two boats, Berdyansk and Nikopol, as well as the tugboat Yana Kapu, were explained by the violation of these ships by the state border of Russia and the refusal to respond to the legitimate demands of the border guards. The FSB admitted that three Ukrainian sailors were injured in this, but stressed that medical assistance was provided to the victims.

According to preliminary information, the detained ships were sent to Kerch.
