On the night of July 13, around 03:00 Kyiv time (20:00 New York time), two unknown persons fired a grenade launcher at the building in which the studio of the 112 Ukraine TV channel is located.

At night, the locals heard a sound like an explosion, and called the police. It turned out that two men attacked the building in which the Ukrainian TV channel is located.

During the inspection of the territory, the police found a shot-out tube of a grenade launcher, which will be sent for examination.

The efforts of law enforcement officers are aimed at identifying and detaining persons involved in committing an offense, as well as at identifying the motives for the crime.

The attack was regarded by the police as an act of terrorism.

According to preliminary information, at night two people drove up to the building of the TV channel by car and opened fire from a grenade launcher. After the shelling, they disappeared in an unknown direction.

As a result, a hole was left in the wall of the building. Pieces of signs with the emblem of the channel scattered on the pavement area and the roadway. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

Patrol police blocked entry to the territory of the channel. The gunners are looking for law enforcement officers, checking all suspicious cars.

Information about the event was entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under the h. 1 Art. 258 (Terrorist Act) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

General Director of 112 Ukraine Yegor Benkendorf has already made a statement regarding the shelling of the TV channel building with a grenade launcher.

“I appeal to the Office of the President of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers, personally to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Prosecutor General and the Security Service of Ukraine with a demand to immediately condemn criminal actions against the TV channel. You must clearly and decisively say: “In Ukraine you cannot use force against the media.” The entire civilized world expects this from you, including the embassies of the G7 countries, where we have already turned for support,” the appeal says.

In turn, the owner of 112 Ukraine, Taras Kozak, called the shelling of the TV channel’s building “another threat to independent media.”

He also appealed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Security Service with a request to investigate this crime, and also accused the deputy and former leader of the Right Sector, Dmitry Yarosh, of making threats.

“I want to ask the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine - what’s next? What if the next try is successful? Who reacted, for example, to the post of Dmitry Yarosh, who on social networks openly began to threaten the channel’s employees with violence and called on - I quote - to shut up everyone concerned about violations of people’s rights and freedom of speech,” Kozak noted.

The management of the TV channel "112 Ukraine" is associated with Vladimir Putin's godfather Viktor Medvedchuk, writes Radio Liberty. And also in “112 Ukraine” they supported the initiative to hold teleconference between Ukraine and Russia, because of which a big scandal broke out in the country. Many considered the holding of such a dialogue between the residents of countries intolerable, given the military conflict in the Donbas.
