In three states, ICE officers disguised as fraudsters extort money

In California, New York, and Virginia, there have been cases where people disguised as ICE officers instilled fear in immigrant communities and extorted money to avoid deportation.

According to a new report, a similar case was recorded with one illegal immigrant, from which fraudsters demanded $ 250 so that he could avoid deportation.

In February, a group of four men wearing ICE jackets approached an immigrant in Woodside, Queens, and stated that she would deport him if he did not give them money. The man whose data the police do not call to protect his family, gave them $ 250.

Another case happened quite recently. In San Rafael, California, a person wearing the official ICE uniform came to the service in Spanish, where he photographed and videotaped people, then quickly left. His appearance scared people, so the police are investigating this incident.

As it turned out, it’s not at all difficult to look like an ICE agent. All that is needed is a jacket or vest with the inscription ICE, as well as the willingness to play on the fear of scared people.

Itai Ozderman, an 35-year-old IT worker in Virginia, who portrayed an ICE agent, actually told detectives in Falls churchthat he was a law enforcement agent, so Ozderman was charged with violating the law.

But the man who looked into the San Rafael divine service did not tell anyone that he was an ICE agent, so the police came to the conclusion that he did not actually break the law. The officers said East Bay Timesthat they will transfer the case to the district attorney’s office for additional consideration.
