A Dallas woman was sentenced to 6 years in prison for abusing her son. Now Christopher Bowen is a happy ten-year-old boy who lives a full life, loves to sing in the choir and play football. But this was not always the case: his mother forced him to undergo 13 operations and 323 doctor visits, while the child was completely healthy.

Cailin Bowen-Wright falsified her child’s illness for years, forcing him to go through operations he didn’t need, says NBCDFW. The woman pleaded guilty, she was threatened up to 20 years behind bars. State prosecutors insisted on a maximum term, but the judge chose a six-year sentence.

According to the boy's father, Ryan Crawford, "each illness resulted in him dying every time we went to court."

The child spent the first 8 years of his life in hospitals and beyond. His mother appears to be suffering from delegated Munchausen syndrome (a psychological disorder that is characterized by hyper-custody behavior on the part of carers). The woman pleaded guilty to inflicting serious trauma on the child from birth.

The boy’s father said that everything that happened for years deprived him of the opportunity to be with his son.

“There was too much manipulation, too many lies, I didn’t know what to do,” he admitted.

Crawford has struggled for years to get custody. All this time, Christopher was subjected to unnecessary operations and forced feeding through the tubes, while his mother took him from doctor to doctor.

“Often, we make next steps in care based on what happened previously,” says Dr. Suzanne Dakil of Children's Medical Center Dallas.

Wright claimed that her son had everything: from muscular dystrophy to heart problems, cramps and cancer “all over.”

Dr. Duckil, a pediatrician who deals with child abuse issues, says treatment has led to complications. The boy was exposed to unnecessary radiation and suffered from sepsis six times due to intravenous infections, he also had blood clots.

Crawford said family judges never took him seriously.

“I said that all this was not true, but they never believed me,” the father admitted.

Doctors in children's hospitals in Dallas and Houston trusted their mother until it became clear that the picture of the disease did not add up.

The turning point came in November 2017, when 34-year-old Bowen-Wright brought her son to a hospital in Dallas, claiming he had an attack of seizures.

Health workers said they were “shocked,” with no signs of an attack, officials said. Doctors began to suspect that his symptoms could be deliberately false, and warned Child Protective Services.

“I’m very concerned that my mother went from exaggerating symptoms to inducing symptoms,” wrote Susanna Dakil in the CPS petition.

The investigation believes that medical violence began when Christopher was only 11 days old in the 2009 year. Medical records indicate that Christopher visited a doctor 323 times in Dallas and Houston between 2009 and 2016, according to a CPS statement.

During his short life, Christopher was fully breathed with an oxygen cylinder and occasionally used a wheelchair. He had a digestive tube directly placed in the small intestine, resulting in three life-threatening blood infections.

Bowen-Wright even tried to put him on the lung transplant list, the publication added.

According to the Dallas County Sheriff, she was arrested in December 2017 and charged with injuring a child with serious bodily harm.

According to his father, and later officials, after his mother was arrested, Christopher began to eat regularly, he had no attacks, the boy was breathing his lungs and he had no suspicion of cancer.
