In Texas, an elderly couple died from the heat: the air conditioner broke down in their house, and repairs were too expensive
An elderly couple from Texas died after the air conditioner in their home broke down during a sweltering heat wave. The tragedy occurred just a few weeks before the 52nd year of their wedding, reports Dailymail.
Monway Ison, 16, and Ramona Ison, 72, were found dead at their home in Baytown next to the corpse of their beloved dog on June 71.
The couple's air conditioner failed four days before the tragedy.
The Isons did not have the money (estimated to be between $1400 and $1600) to fix the air conditioner right away. Therefore, they were going to get a loan next week, but for now they were suffering from the heat in their house.

The spouses received the loan money on the 15th, but when the next day a repairman appeared on the doorstep, the doctors who arrived at the scene were already examining the corpses of the spouses.
“Apparently, the parents were packing their things to leave. This is evident from how they were found. Perhaps they decided that it was getting too hot and it was time to leave. But it turned out to be too late, ”the daughter of the deceased, Roxanne Floods, suggested.
“I read about how the heat can be disorienting when you feel exhausted, and all the symptoms to look out for. I don’t think they knew what to fear,” she said.
Eddie Phillips, a neighbor whom Ramona Ison often took to meetings, called 911 when he didn't see the couple with their beloved dog that day.
“I decided I'd better go and check them out. Knocked in the door. No answer. He went to the bedroom and knocked on the window. No answer. That's why I decided to call the police," he explained.
Phillips offered to move the Isons into his air-conditioned house until theirs was fixed, but they refused.
“Obviously they thought they were going to be okay,” Fluds said, as they are from Texas, where they grew up and are used to the heat.

“My dad worked outdoors in the heat for over 20 years at the Baytown golf course, so he was always outside during all weather conditions and the heat didn’t bother him,” she explained.
According to the Weather Channel, the temperature in Bayville on the 12th was 37,2C. From that day until the fateful 16th, it never dropped below 35,5Cº.
“It turned out to be fatal for our family. The heat is no joke,” Floods said.
She stressed that in more than 51 years of marriage, her parents "never had to spend a day apart."
Fluds is calling for a greater understanding of the dangers of heat to prevent further deaths due to record high temperatures.

“I would like to organize some kind of resource that can warn people about how deadly this heat is. This will save those who do not have the money to repair their air conditioner. In this case, they will know that they are literally staying in the oven,” she argued.
