By the end of October, the world's first “sky taxi”, developed by the American company Skytran with the support of the Israeli concern Israel Aerospace Industries, will be launched in Tel Aviv, Israel.

The project provides for the installation of a special monorail six to nine meters above the ground, along which four-seater trailers will move using the principle of magnetic levitation.

The idea behind the Skytran transport system is to reduce dependence on cars. The first "sky taxi" will operate on the IAI campus.

The length of the track will be 275 meters, and the trailer will be able to accelerate the speed to 96 km / h. The cost of building the SkyTran system costs eight million dollars per kilometer of monorail and 25-30 thousand dollars per trailer, which makes it cheaper to launch a new metro station. The construction of one kilometer of an underground transportation system can cost from about one hundred million to two billion dollars.
