Students are banned from drinking at Stanford

In an effort to put an end to the growing "culture" of drinking, Stanford University has decided to ban students from drinking hard liquor on campus.

The ban applies to cocktails with strong alcoholic beverages and their use in its pure form, but does not apply to beer and wine, writes SF Gate.

In addition, alcohol was banned in large bottles, the volume of 750 ml and more.

In this case, alcohol will be allowed at parties organized by student organizations, as well as in places where graduate students live.

Junior students who have reached 21 of the year will be able to drink beer on campus, but no more.

The decision was made after several recent alcohol-related incidents on campus. In particular, after a notorious case involving student Brock Turner, who was sentenced to 6 months of imprisonment in June for raping an unconscious drunk girl. It happened after a party in which 20-year-old Turner went over alcohol. In the state of California, where Stanford University is located, it is allowed to drink alcohol since 21.

Too soft a punishment caused a wave of protests among the parents of students. The 23-year-old rape victim understands that she should not have been drunk into an unconscious state, but her drunkenness is no excuse for Turner who raped her.

“I want to show people how one night of drinking can destroy two lives: yours and mine,” the girl told Turner at the trial.

She said that she came to the party with her younger sister, drank too much alcohol and turned off. At about one in the morning, two graduate students stumbled upon half-dressed Turner, who was lying on the girl.

The students called the police, Turner told investigators that he had drunk 7 beer cans, and that sex with this woman was by mutual consent.

The new university policy is not directly related to the Turner case, but is the result of the school management’s concern about the situation with frequent alcohol consumption on campus.
