Women pilots are a rarity in the aviation industry. According to the nonprofit Women in Aviation, only 6,7% of pilots are female.
According to Southwest Airlines, the company's former president, Colleen Barrett, was the first female president of a major airline. The airline also staffed other flights—unintentionally—with female crew. This year Southwest Airlines donated $ 33 500 to women scholarships for their career in aviation.
