Three times as many: US expanded coronavirus symptoms list
At the request of American doctors, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States has published an updated list of symptoms of coronavirus, reports Fox News.
Previously, the CDC focused on only the three main symptoms of COVID-19 - fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Now the agency has listed chills, sudden fatigue, muscle aches, a headache, a sore throat, and loss of taste and smell. The decision to expand the list was made due to the fact that several dozen US doctors told federal officials that their patients with confirmed coronavirus complained of previously unknown symptoms. Doctors encouraged the CDC to include them on this list.
In March, the American Academy of Otolaryngology already called on the CDC to add anosmia (loss of smell) to the list of potential signs of coronavirus.
A study published on April 23, conducted jointly with scientists in Italy and the UK, found that 64% of coronavirus patients reported “an altered sense of smell or loss of taste.”

Experts are convinced that it is critically important to convey to the public all the main symptoms, because while some patients have all of them, others have only a few. It is also known that many people carry coronavirus completely asymptomatically, but at the same time actively infect others.
President Trump introduced earlier three-step plan to cancel quarantine in the country. Dr. James Danny, director general of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, commented on this event, saying that as American businesses open, anyone with symptoms on the list should be tested or quarantined, reports The Daily Mail.
He added that about 40% of patients with coronavirus said they were tired, almost 14% said they had a headache, and about 12% complained of constant chills.
At the moment, more than 888 thousand cases of infection are registered in the United States, more than 50 thousand people have died.
