In the US, proposed to allow gays and bisexuals to donate blood

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States has proposed allowing gays and bisexuals to become blood donors. However, for this they will need to refrain from same-sex intimate relationships during the year.

Chairman of the American Medical Association Robert M. Wah (Robert M. Wah) welcomed the initiative of the department, calling it "a step in the right direction."

Meanwhile, gay rights advocates reacted negatively to the FDA proposal. According to David Stacey, director of the Human Rights Campaign (a non-profit organization advocating for the protection of LGBT rights) to interact with government agencies, the FDA initiative disgraces non-traditional sexual orientation.

According to advocates of gay rights, monogamous homosexuals are less likely to become distributors of AIDS and HIV infection than heterosexuals who have sexually promiscuous.

Since the year 1983 in the USA, homosexuals are not allowed to donate blood if they have had sex with men at least once since 1977. This limitation was due to the AIDS epidemic that began in the 1980s.

In addition, HIV-infected people, sex workers and those who inject drugs without a doctor's prescription cannot be blood donors.
