Half a million COVID-19 tests are recalled in the United States: they are infected with bacteria

Testing for COVID-19 is supposed to tell if a person is sick. But some of them can cause illness and infect you with bacteria. More than 500 tests are being recalled in the US because they may be contaminated with bacteria. Writes about it ABC7.

According to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the manufacturer is recalling more than half a million test kits that were sold at CVS and Amazon. They can be infected with strains of bacteria that can cause disease.

Infected kits will give false test results.

The federal agency has not received any reports that anyone has actually developed the disease. However, the FDA is warning consumers not to use but to throw away any test kits that are subject to a recall. The liquid solution must not be poured into the sewer.

The kits are labeled SD Biosensor, Inc. Pilot COVID-19 At-Home Tests and distributed by Roche Diagnostics.

About 500 kits were donated to CVS and about 000 to Amazon.

These kits were not among those given away for free by the federal government.

The fluid in the test kits may be contaminated with certain strains of bacteria.

During the normal testing procedure, users should not ingest or come into contact with the liquid in the test vial. But accidental infection is also possible.

“Infection with bacteria such as Enterococcus, Enterobacter, Klebsiella, and Serratia can cause illness in people with weakened immune systems or in those who come into direct contact with a contaminated liquid solution through routine handling, accidental spills, or misuse of the product,” it says. FDA message.
