Walmart beds are recalled in the US: dozens of people were injured

Walmart is a place where you can buy not only groceries and other small things, but also home decor and furniture. However, if you happen to get a bed at Walmart, then it can be dangerous. On September 8, CPSC announced a recall of Cyme Tech's Murphy beds as they pose a serious risk to consumers. Beds that can be placed vertically against a wall and lowered during use were sold under the brand names Ivy Bronx, Orren Ellis, Stellar Home Furniture, and Wade Logan.

Between February 2014 and May 2022, approximately 8 beds were sold, available in five colors: white, rustic grey, espresso, cinnamon and tuxedo.

According to the announcement, the recall affects four different "Murphy low-profile wall-mounted bed part numbers." These include S214 (double bed, vertical installation), S215 (double bed, vertical installation), S234 (double bed, horizontal installation) and S235 (double bed, horizontal installation).

The manufacturer has received almost 150 reports of falling beds.

According to the recall announcement, full-size and queen-size beds pose a "serious impact or crush hazard." So far, Cyme Tech has received 146 reports of beds falling or breaking. Of these incidents, 62 resulted in injuries, with consumers reporting "broken bones, bruises, lacerations, concussions and other injuries".

This happens when beds "break or come off the wall and fall on those nearby," the CPSC said in a statement. According to a safety notice posted on the Cyme Tech website, this is the result of "improper assembly or fixing of the bed to the wall."

The recalled beds were sold exclusively online, but sales were not limited to Walmart.com. You, too, may have purchased a recalled Murphy bed from Wayfair, AllModern, Amazon, Cymax, or Overstock for between $1 and $200.

If you're concerned that your bed is subject to a recall, check the brand name and part number on your online receipt, which is likely in your email. CPSC says you can contact Cyme Tech for confirmation. The company directly communicates with all "known buyers".

According to CPSC guidelines, if you have a recalled bed, you should stop using it immediately. Consumers should contact Cyme Tech directly to schedule an inspection and repair, both of which will be at no cost to you.
