Brooklyn’s IT Pass Education Center has released more than 15 software testing teams over its three years of existence. Graduates of the center found work by profession, and not only in New York, but also in Colorado, Washington, North Carolina and Florida.

Today, the center’s founders and instructors, Alexander Rubinshtein and Valery Kruglyak, begin a new stage. Their successes were noticed in the company Test masters academy. The founder of the company, Anna Roizman, invited Alexander and Valery to collaborate in the new Test Masters Academy Training program.

The training takes place in English, but Russian-speaking teachers, who are usually few in the class, will always come to the rescue. One of the founders of IT Pass, Alexander Rubinstein, says: he and his colleague Valery Kruglyak have been working in this field for more than 20 years. At some point, familiar recruiters began asking them to conduct seminars for those who wanted to become testers or prepare people for interviews.

They did it once or twice - requests became more and more frequent. And then Donald Trump won the election, the issuance of H1B work visas, which many IT specialists came to the USA for, became complicated, and employers rushed to look for employees among those who are already in America. Therefore, it was decided to open courses on an ongoing basis.

Practice from day one

Functional testing specialists are taught only 3 weeks here. The authors of the course assure: that the basics of the profession can be so quickly mastered by the fact that they are not sprayed on various additional information, but are taught specifically to test. Moreover, not in theory, but in practice.

“Our course has its own highlight, which fundamentally distinguishes it from other seminars. We have a website that we ourselves have created, and during the training students test it. The site is intentionally made with errors. Using his example, students write all the documentation, we find errors, make reports, that is, we do everything that a person working as a tester does. Accordingly, when our students come for an interview, they do not just tell the theory, but describe the process of work - this is a huge difference, ”says Alexander Rubinstein.

From the basics to a difficult course

After the first graduates began to get jobs and develop, they began to come to school and ask to teach them more. Then the teachers thought about creating a more complex course in advanced - automated testing.

If “functional” testers earn $ 55-60 thousand a year from the start, then having mastered automated testing, you can immediately raise your income to 100 thousand.

To do this, you need to learn the program Selenium. “Both of these specialties are now in great demand in the market,” says Alexander Rubinstein. - If you conduct a study on the Internet, you can see that in the field of automated testing only in the New York area there are now about 800 offers. I would say that for specialists who have mastered Selenium, the chances of finding a job, especially using the resources of Test Master Academy, are close to 100%. ”

However, not everyone can master the advanced course, so teachers warn: if you have no background related to computer work, it will be difficult to study, but nothing is impossible, the main thing is desire. Alexander usually suggests that new students take a short course first and only then move on to an in-depth course. Moreover, in this case there is a $695 discount on the second course. The 3-week course costs $1695, and the 12-week course costs $3995, with a discounted price for the full course of $4995. Students who are not yet working in the IT industry can, based on the results of an interview with TMA employees, be included in the “New in IT” program, which allows them to pay 80% of the course immediately, and the remaining 20% ​​after finding a job. All types of payment are accepted.

They do not guarantee work, but they help to search

In the courses, teachers not only help students write resumes, but also carefully prepare them for the interview, playing the whole process over and over again. But they cannot promise 100% employment at Test Masters Academy.

“I am proud of those graduates who, in addition to classes, study on their own. We are often asked at Open Days if we guarantee work. I ask a question in response: does Harvard guarantee a job? No, really. Neither do we. The job is guaranteed by your desire to study,” shares Alexander.

True, with each new release of employed testers there are more and more. Nikolay finished the course last fall. He himself is a former driver, and honestly admits: initially he was skeptical about trying to learn a new profession, he went to courses, rather, out of interest. When I began to go to the first interviews, refusals rained down. But the man did not give up.

“One, two, three, and in the end I got my hand in the interview and stopped being afraid. After that, almost immediately, they hired me. I came to a small company that makes mobile applications for banks, and honestly told them that I actually have no experience. Suddenly, they didn’t refuse me, the manager suggested: let’s look at you. And after some time they gave me a contract for a year for 35 dollars per hour, ”says Nikolai.

Valery also got to work in a startup after graduating from IT Pass courses; he is testing application software for the restaurant business. He says: I also had to run around for an interview, many of his experience was not suitable, but in the end, what was needed was found.

“A job search is work, many do not understand this, but it took me several months to do this,” the man says.

Alexander confirms: in order to be guaranteed to find work after the courses, you need to send a few resumes every day. And then, sooner or later, the quantity will grow into quality.
