Researchers at Harvard Medical School have developed a device that can test food and determine the presence of popular allergens, such as gluten, nuts or dairy products, in less than 10 minutes.

The device consists of three components: a plastic tube used to dissolve a small amount of food; then magnetic balls come in to detect the food allergen you are looking for; After that, information on the presence or absence of an allergen in food is displayed on an electronic reader with a display.

iEat mates with a mobile phone through a special application that can help other people with allergies.

Using the app, users can store the data they collected about various dishes in restaurants, as well as packaged foods.

This data can be made available to other users of the applications, which will help them find a restaurant with no or very low levels of a specific allergen.

The research team granted a license to manufacture this device to a start-up company to make iEat commercially available to all comers.
