In the United States will change the rules for issuing products on coupons
Regulators in the United States promote stricter rules for stores that accept food stamps, which can completely change the list of stores that benefit from the state food stamp program.
The proposed tightening of the rules confronts small shops with such trading giants as WalMart and Kroger Co, because we are talking about a $ 74 billion state program, writes The Wall Street Journal.
By the end of 2016, the US Department of Agriculture wants to introduce rules that require stores that accept food stamps to store a wider range of meat and vegetables in warehouses and sell fewer ready-made hot meals.
Since there is currently no growth in US sales, food stamps are crucial for grocery stores. Last year, the money received by stores from the fund to provide food stamps, on average, 5,8% of total sales in these outlets.
Large supermarket chains, like WalMart, automatically comply with stricter rules, because they have a very wide range, but 195 thousands of small shops will have to add additional units to their 168 shelves, which will be introduced by new rules, which will be expensive and unprofitable, given the small areas of these retail outlets and limited storage capacity for fresh produce.
