March 26 Boeing 737 Max of Southwest Airlines urgently landed at Orlando airport due to engine problems. There were no passengers on board the aircraft, the airliner was heading to California, writes TASS with reference to the statement of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

As follows from the document, the crew of the airliner shortly after takeoff “declared an emergency situation” on board after it became aware of a problem with the engine. “The plane returned and landed safely in Orlando.” The FAA clarified that the plane was traveling without passengers. Fox News previously reported that only two pilots and two passengers were on board.

According to the FAA, the plane was scheduled to fly from Florida to California. “The FAA is conducting an investigation,” the department said.

As reported by Southwest Airlines, the reason for the return of the aircraft was technical problems of a mechanical nature, and not problems with computer systems or software. This is stated in a company statement received by TASS via e-mail.

The document states that the crew decided to return "shortly after takeoff from Orlando International Airport due to reports of a mechanical problem associated with one of the aircraft's engines." “The aircraft will soon be delivered to our service center at the airport, where it will be technically inspected,” Southwest Airlines explained. The airline clarified that the airliner was “transferred” to California, where the company’s other Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft are located.

The statement notes that the plane was planned to be delivered to the state of California, where the company's other Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft are being stored "until the US FAA allows them to be used again for passenger transportation."

Recall that 10 March is Boeing 737-800 MAX of Ethiopian Airlines airlines with 157 people on board crashed shortly after departure from the airport in the capital of Ethiopia. None of the people in the liner survived.

This is the second deadly catastrophe of this model aircraft in less than six months. Prior to this, an accident with Boeing 737-8 MAX occurred on October 29 2018 of the year: then Lion Air crashed. All people aboard 189 died. The plane fell into the sea off the coast of Indonesia 13 minutes after takeoff.

Then it became known that the plane had fallen due to problems with the flight control sensors and that the threat of a repetition of such a problem still exists for 250 liners Boeing 737 Max.

After a crash in Ethiopia, several countries and airlines refused to fly on Boeing 737 Max aircraft. The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has issued a directive to suspend flights of this aircraft in the territory of the European Union.
