Republicans and Democrats in Congress, who almost unanimously approved the introduction of new sanctions against Russia in the summer, criticized Trump for not punishing Moscow, and accused him of being too soft towards his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

“The process of adopting sanctions is long, difficult, this is an unpleasant step, but when there is evidence and we are ready, sanctions will be adopted,” one of the officials said.
