'It's like discovering a new planet': 12 treasure ships found in the Mediterranean
In the Mediterranean Sea, at the bottom between Cyprus and Lebanon, a British team of scientists discovered 12 sunken ships, the holds of which are filled with treasures, writes League.News.
In the Mediterranean Sea, 17th-century ships with treasures were found - porcelain from the early Ming Dynasty, which is sold at auction for tens of millions of dollars.
Supposedly, the ships sank around 1630. They found many expensive artifacts: from the porcelain of the early Chinese Ming Dynasty to the ancient coffee pots and tobacco pipes.

The flagship, a 43-meter ship that could take 1000 tons of cargo, contained jewels from 14 cultures: from India and China to Belgium. More than 360 cups and dishes from the Ming Dynasty porcelain were found on it.
By the way, porcelain of the early Ming Dynasty costs fabulous money! For example, in 2014, a small cup was purchased for $ 36 million.
Researchers note that the find changes the idea of globalization of the XVII century and probably indicates a previously unknown trade route. They believe that the ships sailed under the flag of the Ottoman Empire.

“The goods and objects of the 14 cultures and civilizations discovered span both the eastern side of the globe (China, India, the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea) and the western side (North Africa, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Belgium). It's a surprising amount of cosmopolitanism for pre-modern shipping from any era,” says ESP's Sean Kingsley.
The team notes that such a find for archaeologists is equivalent to the “discovery of a new planet” for an astronomer.
It is known that the remains of the ships were discovered back in 2015. The excavations lasted for many years: the work was complicated by the depth (about 2000 meters) and the muddy bottom. Only now have scientists been able to get to the contents of the ships and claim that their work and expenses have paid off in full! Experts are already comparing this sensational discovery with the discovery of a new planet - it turned out to be so significant for science.
