Switzerland launches world's longest passenger train with breathtaking mountain views

The longest train in the world set off on its maiden voyage. It was launched by the Swiss company Rhaetian Railway. Read more about the event told the publication Habr.

The length of the record train is 1,9 km, and it consists of 100 wagons. His first flight took place on the Albula-Bernina route from Preda to Bergün. This is a 25-kilometer path, where 22 tunnels are located, as well as 48 bridges over the beautiful Alps.

On the first flight, 150 passengers were poisoned. Among them were journalists who captured their incredible journey. The trip lasted just over an hour.

The Albula-Bernina route was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008. So all passengers enjoyed unique views. The train passed through the famous single-track Landwasser viaduct with a radius of 100 m.

“We are celebrating the 175th anniversary of Swiss Railways and this world record attempt should be one of the highlights of this anniversary,” said Rhaetian Railway CEO Renato Fasciati.

The previous record was set by the National Belgian Railway Company in 1991.

And in 2016, the longest and deepest Gotthard Base Tunnel in the world was opened in Switzerland. Its construction took 17 years. Now it links Italy and Germany directly. The Gotthard Base Tunnel (57,1 km) overtook the Japanese Seikan Tunnel (53,9 km) and the Channel Tunnel (50,5 km) in length.
