An immigrant from Russia who worked as a taxi driver was killed in St. Louis
Boris Yuyukin worked as a taxi driver at Laclede Cab Co for more than twenty years after he moved to America from Russia. Yuyukin’s body with knife wounds was discovered by a resident of northern St. Louis on the street, writes STL Today.
“He was one of our hardest working drivers,” company President Adam McNutt said Tuesday, three days after Yuyukin's death was reported. “He was a balanced, calm person.”
The man's death remains a mystery to the company's management and colleagues. A local resident who discovered the taxi driver's body called the police. Officers who arrived at the scene recorded death. Interviews with residents of nearby houses yielded nothing - they did not hear any shots.
According to the company's president, Yuyukin's taxi was called to the area where he was later killed. The car itself was not at the crime scene - the car was found the next morning eight miles (almost 13 kilometers) from the place where the man's body was found. The vehicle was covered in blood - Yuyukin died from knife wounds.
Boris Yuyukin was 66 for years, and he worked as a taxi driver for 1994. He had his own taxi car, but Boris worked under a contract for the company Laclede, paying for the services of a dispatcher. That ill-starred evening, Boris did not inform the dispatcher that he was in danger.
A colleague of Boris, taxi driver Umar Lee, said that Yuukin was always honest with clients, worked conscientiously and was a decent person:
“He came to the States in search of a better life. He found a home in St. Louis and loved the city and its people. Unfortunately, he lost his life here. This is a big tragedy,” says the man.
Lee said about the work: “It’s dangerous work in a dangerous city.” A colleague suggests that during the low season, taxi drivers may accept calls that they would ignore at other times. All this is due to the pressure on the taxi worker and the difficulties of the industry itself. Lee does not rule out that these factors were decisive in Yuyukin’s death.
St. Louis police ask you to call: 866-371-8477, if you know something about the incident. Information that will help solve the crime will be paid.
