In Russia, 26 people died from alcohol poisoning, 33 were hospitalized

The poisoning became known on October 7. At that time, 9 deaths were reported. Currently, 12 people are in serious condition, 3 of whom are in critical condition. The rest are hospitalized; their condition is assessed as satisfactory.

In the region began mass checks of stores where the authorities are looking for counterfeit alcohol. Methanol was found on sale in a number of points of sale. It is a poisonous alcohol, the use of which can cause blindness and death.

Analyzes have revealed pure methanol, a deadly poison, in the bodies of the victims and the dead. “In some cases, the detected concentration in the body is three to five times higher than the lethal dose, writes Lenta.Ru.

The perpetrators were arrested

A 29-year-old resident of Orsk who was illegally selling alcohol, as well as a 60-year-old resident of the village of Akzharskoye and a 47-year-old woman from the village of Krasnochabansky, who sold alcohol to the victims, were detained, reports with the BBC.

One of the accused fully admitted guilt, the other two - partially.

The Orsk District Court has appointed two months of arrest for the accused in the case of the production and sale of alcohol.

Investigators also found a warehouse on the territory of a trade and purchasing base in Orsk, from which consignments of surrogate alcohol were supplied. During the search, more than 1,2 thousand bottles with alcohol-containing products without labeling were seized from the warehouse.

Poisoning

Those who were poisoned lost their eyesight, their legs were taken away, severe pains in the intestines began, and a coma set in.

The regional Ministry of Health said that narcologists and resuscitators are working with the victims, sanitary aviation is ready to work. The region admits that there may be more victims and deaths.

Among those killed by surrogate alcohol were parents of five children aged from one to 10 years old, mother and father were slightly over 40.

Not the first case of poisoning with surrogate alcohol in Russia

In August 2021, in Karelia, four citizens of Belarus died after poisoning with surrogate alcohol. According to the results of the study, the drink contained methyl alcohol.

One of the most famous cases of mass alcohol poisoning occurred in 2016 in Irkutsk. People died after consuming a fake hawthorn bath concentrate that contained methyl alcohol and antifreeze instead of ethyl alcohol.

Then 123 people were injured, 76 were killed. Mourning was declared for the dead. As part of the investigation, 19 people involved in the sale and manufacture of Hawthorn were detained.
