Lawyers and relatives of the Ukrainian serviceman Nadezhda Savchenko, sentenced in Russia to 22 years of imprisonment, reported on the start of the extradition procedure to Ukraine.
Savchenko’s lawyer, Mark Feigin, confirmed to RIA Novosti that he had received Savchenko’s statement about her consent to extradition to serve his sentence on the territory of Ukraine.
“According to the procedure, she should have received documents to fill out that would start this process. I believe that yes, the procedure has begun, but you need to understand that it is not quick and can take from a month to two,” the agency quotes Feigin.
The sister of the convicted Vera Savchenko reported that the head of the detention center in Novocherkassk, which now contains Savchenko, issued for extradition documents, including a statement and biographical information.
“According to Nadya, she is signing the documents today, she was given the documents to fill out. The head of the pre-trial detention center said that this was an extradition. And Nadya jokes that this could be a phase,” Interfax-Ukraine quotes Vera Savchenko.
A few hours later it became known that Sister Nadezhda Savchenko could not leave the territory of Russia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported in Twitterthat at the border checkpoint a passport was taken from Vera Savchenko.
At the moment, as reported, Savchenko is in a car with diplomatic plates with a Ukrainian consul. Russian law enforcement officers do not let the car through.
According to lawyer Ilya Novikov, the reason for such actions may be that Vera Savchenko was previously put on the wanted list “for insulting a Chechen judge.”
According to investigators, Vera Savchenko, while in Grozny at the trial against Ukrainian citizens Nikolai Karpyuk and Stanislav Klykh, disrupted the work of the court. She is charged with contempt of court.

On March 22 of this year, the Donetsk City Court of the Rostov Region found Ukrainian army serviceman Savchenko guilty of the murder of two Russian journalists Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin - as part of a group of persons by prior conspiracy.
The sentence came into force on April 5, after which Savchenko, who said previously about the lack of confidence in the Russian court, announced a dry hunger strike.
As reported, Nadezhda Savchenko can be exchanged for Aleksandr Aleksandrov and Yevgeny Yerofeyev, Russian citizens convicted in Ukraine, who are condemned in Ukraine.
Aleksandrov and Yerofeyev, detained in the 2015 year in the Donbass, were sentenced to 14 years conclusions on charges of facilitating the activities of a terrorist organization and carrying out a terrorist act.
