In Russia, Khodorkovsky is suspected of murdering the mayor of Nefteyugansk

The Investigative Committee of Russia resumed the investigation into the murder in 1998 of the mayor of Nefteyugansk Vladimir Petukhov.

This is stated on the website of the Russian Ministry.

“In connection with newly discovered circumstances, a decision was made to resume the investigation of the criminal case of the murder of the mayor of Nefteyugansk, Vladimir Petukhov, in 1998. According to the operational information that has become available to the Investigative Committee, the director of YUKOS, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, could have ordered this murder and a number of other particularly serious crimes,” the report says.

It is noted that Khodorkovsky’s absence on Russian territory will not become “an insurmountable obstacle to carrying out all necessary investigative actions with him.”
