Walmart will start selling health insurance: what you need to know about the new service
For those who signed up for open enrollment with Medicare this fall, Walmart is getting into the health insurance business just in time. Writes about it Fox Business.
Walmart announced the opening of insurance services to "help people sign up for insurance plans and simplify what has historically been a cumbersome and confusing process."
“We want customers to have confidence in choosing a Medicare plan that best fits their needs, budget and lifestyle,” David Sullivan, general manager of Walmart Insurance Services, said in a statement. “And we want to be a trusted partner in their health care.”
Walmart Insurance Services, a licensed insurance brokerage company, will begin selling Medicare insurance plans during the enrollment period, which runs from October 15 to December 7.
Licensed in all 50 states and Washington DC, the agency will provide Medicare plans (Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement Plans) offered by Humana, UnitedHealthcare, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Amerigroup, Simply Health, Wellcare (Centene). Clover Health and Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

Medicare Advantage plans are for Americans over 65 and people with disabilities.
Sullivan said only 1 in 10 Medicare recipients are enrolled in the plan that saves them the most in cash.
“Helping customers choose the right Medicare insurance plan to meet their needs aligns with Walmart's mission of helping people save money and live better,” he said.
The company said that "more insurers may be added in the future."
Walmart already operates medical centers in the US that offer low-cost services such as dental care and consultations.
