In addition, state laws allow you to stop paying payments after 10 years, even if you don’t pay the full amount, provided that the young person will not commit other crimes during this period and will pay the fine in time in accordance with the payment plan.

Jack Morris, a lawyer for the 15-year-old arsonist, described the fine amount as "absurd." Morris questioned the constitutionality of the judge’s decision and urged him to impose a “more reasonable” amount of the fine.

The judge took into account the comments of the lawyer, but ruled that a fine of $ 36 million for the damage “does not violate either the federal constitution or state laws”.

The arsonist was detained in February 2018 of the year, after the investigation found that 2 of September 2017 of the year he provoked a fire in Eagle Creek Canyon, which covered almost 200 square meters.
The accused pleaded guilty to arson on the negligence of state and private property in eight episodes, storing explosive materials in the forest in two episodes, damaging property and creating a threat to the lives of people in the forest during a fire.

He was also obliged to write letters of apology to 152 tourists who, at the risk of their lives, were selected from the burning forest, to the leadership of Cascade Locks, the Forest Protection Service, the Oregon State Department, the Worm Springs Confederation and other public organizations.

According to the state press, the culprit of the fire comes from a poor family, which is unlikely to be able to help him in payments. The father of the teenager works as a cook, the mother is a housewife.

The fire in Eagle Creek Gorge, which began on 2 in September of 2017, succeeded fully repay only for November 30. In total, the authorities evacuated more 400 residents of the surrounding cities due to the fire.
