Oklahoma closes gas and oil wells due to earthquake

Scientists say that mining oil and natural gas in Oklahoma has made it more susceptible to earthquakes.
In its March report, the US Geological Survey reported that over 7,9 million people living in Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas are currently facing the same earthquake risks as those who live in California.
The report notes that drilling for oil, namely the practice of hydraulic fracturing, or rectification, is a problematic issue.
Saturday earthquake encouraged state regulators in Oklahoma to suspend the operation of 37 water wells, which are associated with the operation of gas and oil wells.

On Saturday, Oklahoma suffered one of the strongest earthquakes of magnitude 5,6 on Saturday early in the morning. He felt residents of 7 neighboring states, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
Mayor Patsni Brad Sewell said that the earthquake lasted almost a minute, which is much longer than previous shocks that lasted only a second or two.
Environmentalists are sounding the alarm because of the widespread use of hydraulic fracturing practices. They indicate that this increases the risk of water pollution and depletes the soil.
