In New Mexico, a mother threw a newborn in a garbage can: it was filmed by CCTV cameras

Shocking surveillance footage shows a teenage mother throwing her newborn into a trash can in New Mexico. A few hours later, the child was found alive, reports NewYorkPost.

Alexis Avila, 18, was seen driving up to a dumpster on North Thorpe Street in Hobbs around 14:00 pm. On January 7, she pulled a black garbage bag out of her car and threw it into a container, according to the indictment documents.

Six hours later, three people were seen rummaging through the dumpster, retrieving a bag, looked inside and found the baby. The woman quickly wraps the newborn up and takes the baby to the truck, as the man was apparently calling the authorities at that moment.

The man who found the baby told police that he, his girlfriend and another friend were rummaging through trash cans when they thought they heard a crying coming from one of the bags, according to a criminal case. He found the baby with the umbilical cord still attached and identified the baby as a boy. He immediately called the police.

“Upon arrival, the officers treated the newborn and the baby was taken to the local hospital by the Hobbs ambulance. The child was subsequently taken to Lubbock Hospital for further pediatric treatment, ”police said in a statement.

The child's condition was assessed as stable.

Police said they were able to recover surveillance footage and then locate Avila's car.
The police went to Avila's house. The girl's parents said she was asleep and that she had stomach pains last week and was not allowed to go to work or school. Her car was confiscated and she agreed to meet with the officers at the station.

She told police that she had stomach pains, and on January 6, she even visited a doctor who told her the news of her pregnancy.

She said she was experiencing severe abdominal pain. She said she gave birth unexpectedly in the bathroom of her home. In a panic, she cut the umbilical cord, wrapped the baby in a towel and put it in a trash bag, which she tied with a hair elastic before leaving.

Police said she confessed to throwing the newborn into the trash can.

The police said that throughout the interview, she called the child "it".

“When we asked Alexis what she thought would ultimately happen to the baby if she was put in a plastic bag and thrown away, Alexis was silent and unable to answer. This shows that Alexis knew very well that the child would die as a result, ”the police wrote in the accusatory documents.

Her mother, Marta Avila, told police that she knew nothing about her daughter's pregnancy. She "denied knowing that Alexis was pregnant and said that she only noticed that her daughter had recently gained weight, but did not think anything concrete about it."

Alexis Avila said she was confident that the father was her ex-boyfriend, whom she dated for about a year and a half before the relationship ended in August. Avila's mother told police that the ex was no longer allowed into their home after he allegedly hit her sometime in June.

Avila has been charged with attempted murder and is due to stand trial in the Lea County District Court.

Joe Imbriale, owner of the Rig Outfitters and Home Store, said that on the evening of January 7th, police asked to view the footage from his security cameras.

“Something was wrong. I saw the officers' faces and they looked worried, ”Imbriale said.

"I said, 'What are we looking for?' And they say, 'We are looking for someone who threw a black garbage bag in your trash can.' I turned around and said, “Please don't tell me it was a child,” Imbriale said.

“I was shocked just seeing it,” he added. “I can’t sleep at night knowing that this baby was just thrown in the trash.” I'm sorry, but who is capable of this? This is pure evil. I don't have words for this."
