Wi-Fi and ports for charging phones will appear in the New York subway
New Yorkers will have access to the Internet from anywhere in the city’s metro until the end of 2016.
State Governor Andrew Cuomo made Wi-Fi coverage throughout the New York subway one of his priorities, writes Spoilednyc.
By the beginning of 2017, passengers will receive full access to cellular communications in the subway, as well as a system of payment for travel through a bank card or on the basis of a special application in a smartphone, instead of MetroCard.
In addition, passengers promise to provide data on the movement of public transport in real time, as well as USB ports for charging phones or tablets in subway cars.
At the same time, the publication notes that the ability to connect to the Internet is not exactly what the New York subway needs most.
A more important problem is the increase in passenger traffic, which the current metro system cannot handle.
As the “Forum” wrote, New York City subways use more than 6 million passengers daily.
