The legendary toy store has closed in New York

In New York, after more than 150 years of work, the famous toy store FAO Schwarz closed.

The reason for the closure of the oldest and most famous toy store in the United States was the growing rent at an exclusive address: Fifth Avenue opposite the Plaza Hotel.

“This is the end of an era and this makes me sad. This is a good store, I think, if it is opened in another place, it should be done under the same name, ”says Flo Marinez, who once spent the night in a store in childhood.

Since 2009, FAO Schwarz has been owned by the Toys R Us chain. Several Hollywood films were filmed in the toy store, and celebrities often came here, including Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Angelina Jolie, Britney Spears, Victoria Beckham.

FAO Schwarz founded Frederick August Otto Schwartz in 1862. According to the Leo Beck Institute, Schwartz was a Jewish immigrant from Germany.

The store management announced that it plans to open a store in a few years, but at a different address.
