A Long Island mall security guard left his infant son strapped in a car seat in a red-hot car and went to work, Nassau County police said.

26-year-old Kalim Rodriguez went to work at Macy's at Roosevelt Field Mall in East Garden City on Sunday morning, leaving a two-year-old child in a parked car, writes New York Post.

After answering the call from 911 around 11: 30 in the morning, the police found a child who was sweating profusely and hot to the touch inside the car at the second level of the car park. The air temperature at this time was 78 degrees Fahrenheit (25-26 Celsius), according to the National Weather Service.

The police were able to quickly gain access to the child - the door was open and the window was rolled down. The sobbing baby was immediately transferred to an air-conditioned car.

Authorities said Rodriguez did not return for about an hour and a half. When the careless father approached the car after the end of the work shift, he was arrested by the police on charges of reckless behavior, creating a threat to the safety and well-being of the child.

The young victim was treated in a local hospital, after which he was transferred to social services.
