In New York, a man tried to steal an 3-year-old girl, and then attacked a woman with a knife

The crazy man tried to grab a 3-year-old girl who was driving a children's car outside Queens, New York, then he broke into the nearest house and threatened the woman with a knife.

29-year-old Lester Augusto was arrested shortly after violent behavior in the evening on May 20: he is accused of attempting to kidnap, enter the house and threaten, writes New York Daily News.

A frightening episode occurred around 17: 45 when a little girl was riding a pink electric car on 104 Avenue. According to witnesses, she and her mom were returning from a nearby park when Augusto pounced on the baby.

“The guy tried to grab the little girl. He was crazy. He tried to tear the little girl away from her mother,” said witness Jonathan Depena.

However, the girl was fastened to her electric car, so Augusto could not get her out. Therefore, the man pulled the seat from the toy and grabbed the girl with him, but the mother managed to snatch the child from the hands of the attacker.

“He reached into his back pocket for a gun, a knife, or something else. Thank God I was there. He saw me and backed off,” Depena said.

Depena asked the assailant what he was doing, in response Augusto shouted death threats in Spanish, and then tried to hide in one of the nearby houses.

According to police sources, Augusto found the unlocked back door and allegedly burst into the house of a third-grade teacher.

61-year-old woman said that she was preparing for her nephew's prom, but when she heard the noise, she went downstairs.

“He grabbed me by the neck and was holding a knife. He spoke Spanish, which I don't speak. He repeated: “No police, no police,” the woman said.

According to her, Augusto pressed the blade of the knife to her throat and dragged her into the kitchen, and then into the living room. He blocked the back door with furniture and started doing the same at the front door.

“I couldn't scream. He would have cut my throat. Luckily, God gave me the strength to stay calm and play along. I followed his example, otherwise he would have killed me. Everything he did was very tough,” the victim said.

The police were already on their way, and while the criminal was trying to block the front door, the teacher realized that she had to act, so she opened the door.

“I opened the door slightly and the police saw that my jacket had hit the door. The door couldn’t close,” she said. She said officers opened the door and grabbed Augusto in no time.

“His eyes were strange and his speech was loud and fast. I didn't smell any alcohol or anything. I was too busy trying to save my life. I received bruises, but, thank God, he didn’t cut my throat and kill me,” the woman said.

During interrogation, Augusto gave a strange explanation for his actions - he thought he had a winning lottery ticket, so he ran to the woman's house to call the police.

During the 21 court session in May, defender Augusto asked for his client to receive medical assistance.

The court set a deposit for 200 000 dollars for Augusto, the next court session will take place on June 7.
